Lleida Festival
May's local festival lasts from 7th to 11st May to honour Saint Anastasius, a Roman soldier born in Lleida and martyred in Badalona by order of Diocletian in 303.
Among the wide range of popular activities we can highlight the spectacular floral offering to the patron saint and the "batalla de les flors", both of which are held on the same day, 11th May, in the morning and afternoon respectively. Along Rambla de Ferran there is a float parade in which the occupants of the floats fight a confetti and streamers battle with the people in the street. The constant presence of the city's emblematic dragon, Lo Marraco, and the oldest couple of "gegants" in Catalunya, Marcus Antonius and Cleopatra (made in 1840), is another attraction of the festival.
