Lleida Holy Week
Two processions are the chief attraction of Lleida's Holy Week. The Procession of Our Lady of Sorrows dates back to 1753 and at 8 p.m. on Palm Sunday it leaves from Oratori de la Verge dels Dolors, situated at the carrer Cavallers and which houses the Our Lady of Sorrows Congregation. The spectacular religious procession, led by a squadron of Armats, is made up of several floats in representation of the seven Sorrows of Virgin Mary, the robes of the respective brotherhoods, the penitents, the popular bearers of Saint Laurentius and the tabernacle of Our Lady of Sorrows.
On Holy Friday's Eve the solemn and penitential procession of the Holy Burial, organised by the Congregation of the Holy Blood, leaves from Església de la Sang. The procession, led by the Armats, is made up by different floats in a moving representation of Christ's Passion and Death, and by the magnificent artistic tabernacle of Our Lady of Solitude, headed by Reclining Christ.
