Cuellar information
Located in the northern part of the province
of Segovia Cuellar is a town whose walls, castle and church of
San Martín were awarded the status National Artistic Monument
in 1931.
Prominent in the highest part of the town is the castle of the
Dukes of Alburquerque, from the 15th and 16th centuries. With
a rectangular plan and four large towers at the corners, three
of them circular, the outstanding features are the parade ground
and the gallery of the south façade, both of which are
from the Renaissance period.
Also interesting is the church of San Martín, which currently
houses the Mudejar Arts Centre. Near the church is the arch of
San Basilio, with elements of the Mudejar style and some Gothic
features on the top of some its panels. Also important are the
churches of San Andrés, from the 13th century and located
outside the city walls; San Miguel and San Esteban.
