Zamora Gastronomy
The end of June is the ideal opportunity for traditionalists to get their fill of garlic in the city of Zamora. Zamora takes advantage of the feast of the city's patron saint, San Pedro, to celebrate the Feria del Ajo (garlic fair)where it puts its traditional product on display. Garlic sellers from the province and other parts of Spain line the sidewalks of the Avenida de las Tres Cruces, offering their products and demonstrating to tourists the art of garlic plaiting. However if you are not interested in buying garlic, browsers can enjoy exhibitions of the best garlic and admire the attractive strings of garlic on exhibit for the duration of the market which lasts 2 or 3 days.
La Feria del Pimiento de Benavente
La Feria del Pimiento de Benavente y Productos de la Tierra takes
place the last weekend in September in Benavente in Zamora. This
fiesta is organised by the Asociación de la Huerta de los
Valles de Benavente AHURVABE and some 40 fruit and vegetable farmers
each year join together in the Plaza Mayor.
Besides the star product, which are peppers from Benavente, the stalls offer other garden produce from the area. Every day there is sampling for everyone when trays spread with peppers and vegetables as well as typical cakes and pastries are passed around.
The weekend-long market is an opportunity for everyone to buy this garden product while music and folklore provide entertainment.
