Formentera Communications

Formentera can be reached by sea from Ibiza. Throughout the day, several Balearia, Umafisa and Inserco boats cover the short route between the Pitiüses islands. The small port of Savina basically serves as a point of communication between the two islands. The crossing takes between thirty and sixty minutes, depending on the type of boat.

Access by air is via Ibiza airport or the other airports on the Illes Balears.

Formentera has little more than 19 kilometres of roads and covers only 82 km2. The short distances involved mean you will often find yourselves using the taxi services. A regular bus service operated by Autocares Paya takes in the main towns on the island, with departures for Pilar, Ca Marí, Mariland, Es Caló, Sant Ferran, Platja d'Illetes, Es Pujols, Sa Roqueta, Sant Francesc Xavier and La Savina. Formentera is also perfect for using a bike or scooter to get the white-sanded beaches.

Formentera is the island of bicycles. Peaceful, calm, small and enchanting, very few visitors can resist the temptation to cover it on bike. A whole fleet of rental bikes (twice as many as the island has inhabitants) is waiting for you.

For many visitors to Formentera, the bicycle is their only form of transport during their stay on the island. Besides the network of dedicated cycle lanes on the main roads, there is also the greenway, which covers the principal areas of natural beauty on the island practically without having to touch any asphalt. The old network of rural tracks, which criss-crosses the heart of the island, has found a new role, benefiting from clear new signalling.

Meanwhile, the port of La Savina and the marina at Formentera Mar offer moorings for leisure boats, if you want to get about the island by boat.
