Drum route
Festival of Tourist Interest. The festivals take place in Albalate del Arzobispo, Alcañiz, Alcorisa, Andorra, Calanda, Híjar, La Puebla de Híjar, Samper de Calanda and Urrea de Gaén. In Híjar they are very severe and black dominates in tunics and terceroles (pleated hoods). The ascent to the calvary and the rompida de la hora, when all the drums start to be played simultaneously at midnight on Good Friday, are remarkable. Calanda is well-known as the birthplace of the cinema director Luis Buñuel. In its spectacular rompida de la hora, at midnight on Good Friday, after the first peal of the bell the drums start to be played and the din continues for 26 exhausting hours, ending with the marcha palillera.
