The changes to this monument include many and varied architectural styles. Already in the 1st century BC there was a basilica here, which in the Visigothic period was called the church of San Vicente. It was also a mosque, but it was in the 12th century when the first Christian church was built on top of all these, which was given a northern, rather than an eastern, orientation, as was typical at this period, so as not to coincide with the direction of Muslim prayers towards Mecca. Changes were made later and the cathedral also includes Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance and Baroque styles. The main doorway is of the latter style, dating from the 18th century. Inside you can visit the cathedral treasure, which includes the famous tapestries.
