Arevalo information
Arévalo is the capital of La Moraña and it was declared a Historic-Artistic Site It is a village that has a long fighting tradition. It is also an important example of Ávila's Mudejar architecture.
The city centre has numerous interesting places to visit, such as the squares of La Villa and Arrabal, in addition to many religious buildings, among which the church of Santa María la Mayor stands out, as well as the church of San Martín, with two slender towers, San Miguel, and Santo Domingo de Silos, where Gothic naves contrast with a Mudejar apse and brick walls. Also remarkable is the imposing castle, remodelled in brick, and with an exceptional circular keep. Within its walls, Queen Isabel the Catholic lived for some time. Two kilometres away from Arévalo we find the church of La Lugareja, the best example of Mudejar art in the whole region.
