Badajoz Natural Monuments
The Fuentes de Leon Caves
Were Declared a Natural Monument by Extremadura Town Council decree
in 2001 (Decree 124/2001) and in agreement with the conservation
of nature and natural spaces of Extremadura Law 8/98.
Because of the importance of the cave for populations of certain
species of bat, the Water Cave was proposed as a Place of Community
Importance (SCI), in agreement with the Habitats Directive (92/43/ECC).
