The Countryside of Murcia
To the North of Murcia we find dry farm land on both sides of the river Segura, which waters the Huerta and later joins the river Guadalentín.
In the centre, a mountain range crosses the region from East to West, taking in the Carrascoy Mountains, the Cabezo Del Puerto the Cresta Del Gallo, Columbares and other smaller examples.
To the South the dry lands, which used to be used as pasture, have nowadays, thanks to the Tajo- Segura aqueduct, been transformed into agricultural areas yielding mainly citrus fruits and almonds. There are two nature reserves in the region, El Valle, which is close to the city and is made up of 1900 hectares and the Carrascoy and Puerto, 600 hectares in size and the place where you can find the ranch Metal Blanco, which has a nature-learning centre.
