Castellon Museums
Museo de Bellas Artes (Museum of Fine Arts)
Located in a building built for an 18th-century nobleman in Caballeros
street, this museum was inaugurated in 1980. Exhibits are grouped
together in themes. The Archeological Section includes pieces
brought in mainly from the province itself, from the Paleolithic
to the Middle Ages. The Ceramic Section is the most outstanding,
containing over a thousand pieces from the workshops and factories
of Onda, Ribesalbes and Alcora, in addition to contributions from
Manises, Teruel province and further abroad. In the Painting Section
there are works by Ribera, Ribalta, Romero de Torres, Rodrigo
de Osona, Sorolla, Mongrell, Puig Roda and Porcar. Also of note
are the sculptures by Adsuara, Viciano, Gandarias, Benlliure and
Vicent.
El Museo Etnológico de la Diputación
(Provincial Council Ethnological Museum)
Inaugurated in 1983, this museum preserves traditional implements
and apparel, and tools used by craftsmen of former times, such
as blacksmiths, ropemakers, shoemakers and weavers. El Museo Municipal
Etnológico del Fadrell (Municipal Ethnological Museum of
the Fadrell) Located in the orange groves surrounding the town
in an annex to the Hermitage of St. Jaume del Fadrell (a pretty
18th-century chapel), this museum contains the largest collection
of rural and folklore exhibits in the province, and also has a
scale model of medieval Castellón de la Plana.
Museo de la Concatedral de Santa María
(Museum of the Procathedral of Saint Mary)
The Basilica contains religious art from a number of epochs in
a variety of styles. Of note are works by Joan de Reixach, Nicolau
Falcó, Luis Montoliu, etc
