Monastery of Santa María la Real which
dates from the 13th century is one of the most emblematic Romanesque
buildings in Palencia.
The church of the monastery has three naves with three apses out of which two are preserved. The cloister, representing the transition to Gothic art, has a series of arches with columns decorated with capitals. Noteworthy on the exterior is the big typha and a main front with three splayed archivolts on pairs of bent columns. Today the monastery house the Romanesque Study Centre.
