Camino de Santiago in Cantabria
One of the main pilgrimage roads is the Northern Road (Camino del Norte), also called the Cantabrian Coastal Path, which crosses Cantabria from east to west, passing through the historic Four Coastal Towns (Castro Urdiales, Laredo, Santander and San Vicente de la Barquera), as well as many other historically and architecturally important towns such as Santoña, Santillana del Mar and Comillas.
A fair amount of research has been done into the traces of the pilgrimage roads that pass through Cantabria, which has provided the foundations for determining a route close to the original one, thus allowing modern day visitors to walk it, avoiding main roads as much as possible, and using rural pathways.
