Aguilar Monastery
Monastery of Santa María la Real which
dates from the 13th century is one of the most emblematic Romanesque
buildings in Palencia.
The church of the monastery has three naves with three apses out
of which two are preserved. The cloister, representing the transition
to Gothic art, has a series of arches with columns decorated with
capitals. Noteworthy on the exterior is the big typha and a main
front with three splayed archivolts on pairs of bent columns.
Today the monastery house the Romanesque Study Centre.
