Palencia Museums

Museum of Palencia
The house of the Cordón, a large house from the 16th century, is the site of this museum open for less than a decade.
From Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages, the pieces are collected from archaeological sites in the province. Of interest is the collection of Celtiberian objects coming from excavations of Monte Bernorio, Tariego and Palenzuela. The 'Tésera de hospitalidad' is one of the most treasured exhibits by the museum.

This museum, situated in the cloister of the Cathedral, displays an interesting collection of religious works from different periods. The exhibition allows us to contemplate pictorial works by El Greco and boards by Berruguete. Sculptures from the 12th to the 18th centuries are also on display, as well as beautiful tapestries and pieces of silverware.

The museum's collections are made up of a full exhibition of the pictorial work of Juan Manuel Díaz-Caneja, royal painter related to the Spanish avant-garde art movement of the first third of the 20th century. The influences of Braque and Matisse can be observed, although his artistic career led him to the world of abstraction.

Diocesan Museum of Art

The Museum is set in the annexes of the Bishop's Palace. The Museum's collection is made up of painted fonts, carvings, and a series of sculptures from the 12th to the 14th century. It boasts exceptional works by great masters of painting, such as Berruguete, Juni, Bigarny, etc. The precious metalwork section, in which there are medieval and Renaissance processional crosses is particularly important. The sections of clocks, ornaments and choir books are also very interesting.
